New bond, new ulcer?

I had some good fortune today.  A pretty solid looking $25,000 bond fell into my lap by way of an attorney referral.  The downside is that there is no indemnitor.  The upside was it was 10% cash up front.  The client is an older but not elderly fella that’s lived/worked in the same place for over 20 years. As it was explained to me, he has found himself in a situation with the daughter of the adjacent landowner.  He worked for them for years, but when the daughter took over, things went sour.

One thing led to another and after 3 years of festering feelings and fighting, she had him arrested/charged with malicious damage to property.  The guy’s landlord/friend paid the fee to bond him out, but didn’t want the responsibility of indemnifying. No big deal or so it seems.

Well, I bonded him out and as I’m back home putting in the paperwork, I notice that in addition to the criminal charge, there is also an eviction notice out there for him that was issued on the same day as his arrest. So either the guy that paid the bond was lying to me, or well no…he was definitely lying to me.  Just not sure if he was lying about being the landlord or what. From what I can put together, it looks as if the eviction notice is coming from the daughter, so it is quite possible that she is the real landlord.  I’ll be making some calls in the morning for clarification, but I’m not pleased.

Frankly, I don’t care if the dude has to move, as long as I know where he is going.
